WARNING: INCOMING RANT; More on Square-Enix's Failure to Remake Final Fantasy VII

You first teased it in 2005 with a tech demo for the PlayStation 3. You redid the opening cinematic at the end of Crisis Core in 2008. You included that bullshit DLC for Lightning Strikes Thrice. You've even trademarked the term "Shinra Company". Yet and still, no Final Fantasy VII remake. Do you know why this is?

That link there will take you to an IGN report in which Yoshinore Kitase spoke to Eurogamer on the subject of a Final Fantasy VII remake. He does the usual PR speak of saying it would be a huge undertaking as far as budget and team availability but after that he drops this little gem:

"Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility...I don't know if those three things will happen simultaneously. It has to tick lots of very big boxes. I won't rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen."

As far as team availability, I can understand that from an artistic standpoint. You can't say it's because they want to make a better RPG than VII because I-VI are all available in many remade forms over many different platforms. Both are excuses they've used before.

So they can sign a three game deal for a game and characters that largely flopped after the first game. They can remake the first six games on 20 different platforms, but he isn't "motivated enough" to remake one of the best and most popular video games OF ALL TIME?!

You're not "motivated enough" please most Final Fantasy fans? You're not "motivated enough" to make more money than a small country? You're not "motivated enough" to put in the work required to single-handedly put Square-Enix in the black FOREVER?

So is it like Yahtzee said? A crippling fear of money and success? Is that what your deal is Mr. Kitase?

Then on top of that he says he "won't rule out the possibility". This remake has been a "possibility" for over a decade. They keep dangling these little morsels in front of us, and quite frankly as I am writing this, I'm getting to the point where I'm not going to even try to be quicker than that.

My personal good will is wearing quite thin of the idea of an FFVII remake. It's to a point now where this will be on the level of vaporware like Diablo III and Duke Nukem Forever were for a long time and even still where Half-Life 3 sits. I remember reading in a comment section a while back that Square-Enix would only remake FFVII if they were in financial dire straits and making it would save the company.

I'm starting to think they'd rather let the company die than let a proper Final Fantasy VII remake see the light of day.
